The Law Can Be Beautiful, Part 2

This shall officially be my first post that is meant to be a poll of sorts. I, with all my ideas of how to make the law school at least somewhat attractive, managed to get myself on the Facilities and Services Committee this semester. So alas, my ideas that I have discussed previously did not make it on the agenda(darn faculty already had an agenda before I ever showed up). But there is one improvement that has been discussed, and I am curious what folks think about it.
The concensus is that the fourth floor student lounge is a failure. Most students don't go up there to study or to hang out and socialize. Instead we do all of that either on the first floor or in the library. So the committee is tossing around the idea of creating a new communal space. Now when I say new, that doesn't mean adding to the building(which needs to be done anyways but I get the impression the law school isn't as rich as it should be). Instead the idea has been to change an existing space and reconfigure it into a communal space. They have used the term "communal space" instead of student lounge because the desire is to have students and professors interact more. Apparently back in the day at the old building that was much more common since the professors weren't on a floor by themselves. The initial plan has been to change the first floor. To perhaps knock out the locker room and the canteen and the lounge and that weird little conference room back there and turn it all into one large space. It would still have a canteen, it just wouldn't be a seperate little room like it is now. And they understand the need for lockers, and so would replace them with different ones in a different configuration.
In my head I imagine a large open space with rectangular configurations of sofas and chairs and coffee tables where the current locker room and canteen are with perhaps lockers around the perimeter. Then putting the canteen in what is now that odd conference room and some computers to check your e-mail in what is now the student lounge. That area I see as having table and chair configurations, and the vending machines. Of course what I see may not be what ever occurs.
There was also the idea of perhaps seeing if the lounge could be put on the second floor(the main one). That would involve knocking out the classrooms by Levitt and doing the same configuration as discussed above. It would also involve moving the canteen to that floor. So I am curious what folks think. Do you like either idea? Or do you have a better one? Let me know, leave your comments.
